It’s Been a Long Time Coming!
My love for computers-and technology generally — started way before IT became one of the coolest professions to work in. For me, it’s not about the rave of the moment; it’s about making people’s lives better. As you may have rightfully guessed (comparing this picture to how I currently look), this picture was taken way before tech became “Cool”.
That being said, this picture represents my first official opportunity at working fulltime in a tech company. I’m grateful for the products I was given the privilege of creating and/or implementing (websites, eCommerce, Web Hosting Management, Customer Relationship Management Systems, Satellite images labeling, etc.). I remember a season when workload kept me in the office for 72 hours straight! Strangely, I found this really exciting -at that time.
I had just graduated from software engineering school — with a distinction — when I got hired. I’m really grateful for the referral that got me the job. The organization (A group of companies — one of which was among Apple’s premier value-added resellers in Africa) was really glad to have me. My boss actually threw a small send-forth party in my honour — when I eventually had to resign to continue my education.
Of course, I still have that relationship intact, and now consult to the company once in a while.
